The Creative Freelancer Kit is a Notion template to manage your freelance business: …
Setting the right price for your freelance design services is crucial for attracting clients and ensuring your financial stability. In a competitive market, understanding the nuances of pricing can differentiate you from average designers. Here are some freelance pricing secrets every designer should know:
Understand Your Value: Pricing isn’t just about covering costs; it also reflects your perceived value. Evaluate your skills, experience, and the unique qualities you bring to the table. Add a premium for specialized skills or unique artistry that sets you apart.
Research Market Rates: Before setting your rates, research what other freelance designers with similar skills and experience are charging. Platforms like eFrelance provide insights into competitive pricing within the industry.
Consider Different Pricing Models: Hourly rates are common, but depending on the project, flat fees or value-based pricing might be more appropriate. For instance, a logo design that significantly boosts a company’s brand recognition could warrant a higher price than what hourly rates might suggest.
Factor in All Costs: Make sure to account for taxes, software subscriptions, and other business expenses in your pricing. Overlooking these can leave you underpricing your services.
Client Negotiations: Always have room for negotiations but know your minimum acceptable rate. It’s vital to stay confident and professional in pricing discussions.
Using platforms like eFrelance can streamline these aspects by giving visibility into what clients are willing to pay and enabling seamless rate adjustments. By applying these secrets, you’ll ensure your pricing strategy is both competitive and rewarding.

All these hustlers keep telling you to "charge more charge more" as if just by doing that your revenues will grow. Plus there's no way someone making 2 million a year selling design subscriptions isn't cutting corners and subcontracting freelancers from cheaper parts of the world. You could argue that "QUALITY" isn't really something they worry about when pricing proposals.
Yes, both Companies and clients prefer SaaS business models but there is a clear necessary drop in quality expectations no matter what industry we're dealing with. The more quality and price for services drops, the more in demand the high quality, retainer based exclusivity becomes more attractive to some clients.
Retainer based models with aspects of value/performance (kind of same thing) based bonuses is probably the way to go if quality matters most to both client and company reputation, but it will be much higher fees up front limiting your growth opportunity at the beginning.
